60 kilograms of illegal fireworks confiscated in San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende / Cuerámaro, Gto.- On Tuesday December 6th, a total of 60 kilograms of illegal pyrotechnics was confiscated, during an intense operation carried out against illegal fireworks in San Miguel de Allende, reported state authorities.

Elements of the Secretariat of Public Security, Municipal Transit and Civil Protection, along with the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and Municipal Public Services were involved in this operation, called “Avoid the use of pyrotechnics” (Evita el uso de la Pirotecnia).

The operation took place in the “Tuesday’s Market” (Tianguis de los Martes), where authorities were able to confiscate the mentioned amount of illegal pyrotechnics.

 “The Secretariat of National Defense (Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional) and the General Prosecutor of the Republic (Procuraduría General de la República) will be responsible for discharging responsibilities, as well as for the destruction of the illegal pyrotechnia” informed the authorities.

According to the statement, the fines range from $5,000 pesos ($250 USD) to $500,000 ($25,000 USD) and if the accused cannot afford the fine, he will be sent to prison.

Authorities said that: “We will continue inspecting across the neighborhoods and communities and all people selling fireworks of any kind, must have the permit issued by Sedena, otherwise it will be confiscated”.

Protecting the municipality of Cuerámaro.

Likewise, in order to avoid incidents and to promote the fight against the illegal sale of fireworks, the Civil Protection, Inspection, and Mobility and Transport departments started operating to avoid the sale of pyrotechnics during the Christmas holidays, in the municipality of Cuerámaro.

The local government made the following announcment: “anybody selling illegal fireworks will be sanctioned, and may even lead to prison, since it is a federal crime”.

Municipal authorities warned the population of Cuerámaro that inspectors will be visiting all the stores known for selling pyrotechnics, and in case of finding illegal fireworks, these will be confiscated, and if any high impact explosive material is found within the premises, the owners will be severely penalized.
