Berlin, Germany – A delegation of the Guanajuato’s Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR) participated at ITB Berlin 2017 annual international tourism expo, aiming to promote the state’s attractions and increase the number of international commercial partners.
In the Mexican pavillion, Guanajuato featured the gastronomic program “Guanajuato ¡Sí Sabe!”, featuring the traditional cuisine of this state with the collaboration of Chefs Alonso and Juan Pablo Domínguez, who delighted the attendees with tasting samples and cooking shows during this fair.
The World’s Leading Travel Trade Show Berlin-2017 was held in Berlin, Germany, March 8-13. It is a must-attend event for every international expert in the tourism industry.
This is where companies, organizations, top decision-makers, experts, buyers and young professionals from every touristic area meet every year. Hotel corporations, tourism associations, tour operators, travel agencies, transportation companies, air carriers, booking web portals, systems’ providers and many others come to Berlin for this important annual event.
According to data from the Federal Tourism Secretariat, in the last four years tourists from Europe who visited different destinations in Mexico, recorded a 24% increase.
During the event, Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende participated in the Mexican Embassy photographic exhibition, called “Mexican Cities World Heritage of Humanity“, which purpose is to promote the cultural wealth of these destinations.
This gallery was inaugurated by the Secretary of Federal Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero who also participated in the conference “Mexico as a cultural destination: Mexican Cities World Heritage.“
It should be noted that in the year 2016 Mexico received 230,400 visitors from Germany, 16.8% more than the previous year. Germany is the eighth most important market for tourism in our country.
A large number of appointments took place between Guanajuato’s representatives and several companies and enterpreneurs, such as Peter van Veenendaal, Product Manager for Travel Trend, Dutch TTOO; Janette Emerich of Panama Tour; Christoph Breuer and Bjorn Friedetzky, TTOO Kiwi Tours CEO and Group Director, as well as Sonke Graumann, International Director of the FVW Medien Group; Katharina Kutzmutz, director of the Schmetterling Group and Markus Recknagel, director of the Latin American department of TTOO Diamir.
Additionally, Guanajuato wa highlighted by international media through the interviews of Ortrun Egelkraut (journalist and Mexico expert-guide) and Ute Petra Muller (correspondent from the WELT and NZZ journals).
Regarding the bilateral relation in tourism, Mexico represents for Germany the third most important destination in Latin America, just below Brazil and the Dominican Republic, with a 12.9% from the total toursit arrivals to the region.
The gastronomic program Guanajuato ¡Sí Sabe! was intensely promoted in this fair, this program initiated 3 years ago, and currently has become a main Public Policy, which puts Guanajuato as a world-class gastronomic reference.
