Given the high levels of pollution in the metropolitan area of Guanajuato, authorities will discuss the possibility of implementing the program Day Without a Car (Hoy no circula).

The metropolitan area of Guanajuato, which includes the city of León and the municipalities of Silao, San Francisco del Rincon and Purisima, has had poor air quality in recent days, so the Environmental Management Agency said that it could implement the program.

Also, after the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that not only Mexico City is one of the most polluted cities in Mexico, but also the capital Guanajuato, Leon, Silao, Irapuato, Salamanca and Celaya appear to be areas with high levels of contaminants.

The committee will begin operations starting from July 4, where the proposal will be presented as authorities say they cannot wait for another city like Monterrey or Guadalajara to implement these programs too.

It should be noted that only in the city Leon, the vehicle fleet is 485 thousand vehicles in the state and more than 100 companies are installed, mostly in the automotive industry.

The state Health Department said that although it has not noticed more pollution-related diseases, it remains alert to any complications that might arise before the implementation of the new levels and the implementation of Day Without a Car.
