Times Media Mexico conducted a brief survey with readers from Mérida, Yucatán; San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and The Riviera Maya in Quintana Roo, in which 90% of the respondents stated that in their opinion, AMLO’s petition of apology to the King of Spain for the grievances committed during the time of the Colonia, was nothing but a publicity stunt aimed at promoting the launch of a book on the conquest of Mexico, written by Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, López Obrador’s wife.

The commemorative acts of the conquest of Mexico, are, for the wife of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a “subject to debate because it involved 300 years of colonialism and explotation, before the proclamation” of the Mexican Independence in 1821. A very marked position of a historian who, many consider, is behind the request of apology by the President of Mexico to Spain’s Felipe VI for the conquest.

Müller published a few weeks ago, a doctoral thesis entitled ‘The artificial memory in the true story of the Conquest of New Spain by Bernal Díaz del Castillo‘ (La memoria artificial en la historia verdadera de la Conquista de Nueva España de Bernal Díaz del Castillo). The official presentation of the book was made in Guatemala City on March

In this thesis, Müller affirms that the conquest of Mexico was “a cataclysm, a very strong encounter that ends in war and conquest”. She also appeared in the video AMLO recorded in Comalcalco in which the Mexican president informs Spanish King Felipe VI of the letter he sent, asking him to apologize.

In a conversation with the Spanish justice minister, Dolores Delgado, published in Mexican media, Beatriz Mueller stated that in Mexico, Spanish people are hated. According to media such as CCNews Müller told Delgado on January 30 that the year 2021 would be the appropriate time for Spain to ask for forgiveness because: “here they are not loved by Mexicans, they are even hated,” Müeller said.

Müller, of Chilean descent, is currently president of the Honorary Advisory Council of the Historical and Cultural Memory initiative of Mexico, after being appointed by her husband. Her vocations are those of historian and researcher, having journalist training. She has also been a university professor, and has also published novels and poetry books.
