SALAMANCA, Gto. – After 14 years, Fátima del Carmen García González and Abigail Gómez Camacho have become the first same-sex couple to marry in Salamanca, Guanajuato where their friends and relatives supported them all the way.
García González and Gómez Camacho came to the “Civil Registry Office” located at “Bugambilias” neighborhood.
Judge Silvia Oidor Razo requested the contracting party’s signature of their friends and family members who acted as witnesses. Afterwards, the judge delivered the respective marriage certificate and pronounced them spouse and wife.
Abigail remembered when she met her partner Fátima: “I went to ask if my CFE electricity receipt was accidentally delivered at my neighbor’s house, she opened the door and I fell in love at once.
We became couple, and from that day on, she always stood by me, helped me to raise my three daughters through their different stages in life, during their days as students, their first communion and “Quinceañera” party. I always had her support”.
Fátima del Carmen immediately responded laughing: “she robbed my heart, and never let me go “.
Fátima del Carmen is always smiling and very happy, because she has a beautiful family, she works in a print shop and her partner Abigail is a housewife.
They had dedicated their lives to educate their three daughters from a previous marriage. Besides, they are already grandmothers, because they have two grandchildren and a third one is coming.
Abigail’s daughters: Stephanie, Kimberly and Lorraine accompanied their mother on this important moment.
The three daughters declared: “we support her all the way, if it makes her happy, she should go ahead and get married, for us this marriage is totally normal, her emotional relation with Fátima never affected us at all”.
Raúl Ruiz Valtierra y Ulises Colunga Muñiz, the first same sex couple to marry in the city of Irapuato and the number four in the state of Guanajuato, who impulse the “Irapuato Gay Community” civil association, acted as official witnesses of this marriage in Salamanca.
Raul and Ulises, said that it’s important to support all same-sex couples who want to get married. “We can support them legally, we know the mechanisms and the guidelines that must be followed in order to culminate in a marriage. For this is indispensable that an injunction will be favorable, then it would be enforceable to submit documents required by the institution to marry them.
The couple concluded: “We are proud to become the first same-sex couple to get married in Salamanca, and the fourth statewide. We profoundly regret the discrimination and homophobia that is being promoted and encouraged in Mexico and other parts of the world”.
