In San Miguel de Allende, Juan Gabriel was known as the owner of several houses and ranches. Although, the songwriter only used to visit a couple of  those properties.

One of the last houses visited by the Mexican artist was the property located at “Villa de Los Frailes” (close to the Celaya exit), in an area that features colonial architecture and cobblestone streets, and one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the SMA municipality, by the way.

Surrounded by large beautiful gardens, the artist’s “Villa de Los Frailes” home is located on “El Indio Triste” street, and was built using mostly quarry stone, .

Most of his neighbors knew that the house belonged to Juan Gabriel, but they say that the singer was rarely seen at his home.

Juan Gabriel owned other properties in the San Miguel area, although in the year 2001, a precautionary seizure was made of the ranch “Los Gabrieles” with the support of Public Security agents.

The ranch, located on the San Miguel – Dolores Hidalgo road, had an area of more than two hectares of gardens, more than 300 trees, stables, drinking water well and a country style house plus other smaller guest houses. Alberto Aguilera Valdadez, (Juan Gabriel’s real name), bought the property on behalf of his son Ivan Gabriel Aguilera Salas.

In order to comply with a judge’s order, Juan Gabriel had to pay 23.7 million pesos (1.2 million USD) with an interest of 8% annually since 2001, and the payment of expenses and legal costs that included all fees.
