On Friday October 14, Guanajuato tourism program “My Best Vacation” (Mis mejores vacaciones) was presented in Monterrey, Nuevo León to travel agencies and media, in order to highlight the main attractions of Guanajuato, “The Cultural Destination of Mexico”.
“Guanajuato offers visitors two World Heritage cities, Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende; along with five “Magical Towns”: Dolores Hidalgo, Yuriria, Jalpa de Cánovas, Salvatierra and Mineral de Pozos, and four archaeological sites, Plazuelas, Peralta, Cañada de la Virgen and Cóporo”, said the State Undersecretary of Tourism, Octavio Aguilar Mata, who led the presentation.
He also highlighted other travel segments that are growing in the state of Guanajuato, such as: convention and business tourism, shopping, religious tourism, ecotourism, adventure, culinary and weddings.
The Undersecretary said the State Tourism Ministry promotes different attractions, through exclusive representatives, producers and operators for each destination, with the aim of enhancing the resources and publicize as many places, products and services as possible, in high income markets such as Monterrey, Nuevo León.
Aguilar Mata stressed that Guanajuato has a new tourist offer that highlights the traditional products of the region, through the creation of routes and circuits; such as the Tequila, Wine, Mezcal, Nopal and Candy circuits.
There’s also the Picaso Route (Leather Shoes and Hats), and the Paradores Circuit, featuring José Alfredo Jiménez, Sangre de Cristo, Mineral de Pozos and Corralejo, where the rich history and vast culture of the state is displayed in a visually attractive way.
There are currently several daily direct flights between Monterrey Airport and Bajio International Airport with different airlines such as Interjet, Aeroméxico, Volaris and VivaAerobus.
Aguilar Mata concluded that during 2015, Guanajuato received 691,000 visitors from the northern state of Nuevo Leon, of which 98 percent were specifically from the city of Monterrey, and 731,000 visitors from that region are forecasted for this year.
