Southwest Airlines has released launch dates and an introductory $59 one-way fare for its first nonstop flights between Florida and Cuba.

The Dallas-based carrier said Thursday it plans to begin twice-daily flights from Fort Lauderdale to Varadero on Nov. 13 and and to Havana on Dec. 12. Meanwhile, once-daily service between Tampa and the Cuban capital also is scheduled to begin Dec. 12, Southwest said.

“Flights are open for booking Thursday,” Steve Goldberg, Southwest’s vice president of ground operations, told the Fort Lauderale Sun-Sentinel in a phone interview.

The airline is still finalizing ground logistics in Cuba for its Fort Lauderdale-to-Santa Clara route, and that launch date is expected to be released in coming weeks, said Evan Berg, Southwest’s senior manager of international planning and business development.

All the routes are pending Cuban government approval, Southwest said.

Southwest plans to operate Varadero and Santa Clara flights with 143-seat Boeing 737-700 aircraft and its Havana service with 175-seat Boeing 737-800 planes, Berg said.

To celebrate the new routes, Southwest is offering a special $59 one-way fare on its nonstop routes between Florida and Cuba for purchase by 11:59 p.m. ET on Nov. 20. Fares are valid for travel between Nov. 13 and April 24, 2017, but certain restrictions and travel conditions apply. For fare details, or to book, visit southwest.com.
