Queretaro’s State Unit of Civil Protection (UEPC – Unidad Estatal de Protección Civil) confirmed that one person died and other three resulted injured, while they were climbing in the site known as “La Barranca”, in the municipality of Pinal de Amoles, Querétaro.
This climbing site is located within the “Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve” (Reserva de la Biósfera Sierra Gorda), about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of the city of Querétaro.
According to a statement by the State Unit of Civil Protection, the events took place on Sunday October 30, as the group was conducting an ecotourism climbing expedition at “La Barranca”.
However, the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection in Pinal de Amoles did not receive the report until the early morning hours of Monday, October 31.
That was when they requested police support for the rescue and relocation of three injured people (two men and a woman) near the Community of “La Barranca”.
The statement explained that at 02:50 pm on October 31, staff of this coordination made contact with the Municipal Civil Protection of “Pinal de Amoles”, confirming one dead climber, and three other injured, two men and one woman. The injured were taken to the nearest hospital in Jalpan, Querétaro.
