On Sunday, January 1st, residents blocked the Mexico-Querétaro highway in both directions, at kilometer 102, near Jilotepec, to protest against the increase in gasoline prices.

Federal Roads and Bridges Office (Capufe – Caminos y Puentes Federales) reported that from 12:00 hours the highway had to be closed due to a great number of demonstrators invading the highway lanes.

On Twitter, the federal agency posted the following warning: “#AutMéxicoQuerétaro km 102 registers closure on CDMX direction due to presence of protesters. Take precautions“.

Highway users reported that elements of the Federal Police at “Palmillas” tollbooth, diverted the circulation of vehicles toward Mexico City through Atlacomulco, State of Mexico.

On Sunday Jan. 1st, at 14:00 hours, Querétaro’s news website AM, reported that the tollbooth was closed.

According to local media, the protesters were residents of the Jilotepec municipality, and State of Mexico officials asked them to please reopen the road to circulation.
