After hearing the accusations presented by SMA municipal authorities, former mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco stated that during his administration absolutely no frauds were committed, and that the corresponding authorities will determine if these accusations against him and other members of his cabinet are legitimate or not.
Trejo Pureco said: “It is false that there are irregularities, that there are ‘non-existing’ companies, it is false that they have sought the legal representatives. We also trust the authorities”.
Trejo Pureco denied that people who work in his personal businesses or at his home have been placed in the municipality’s payroll.
“I have been a businessman for many years and I have always paid the salary of every single one of my employees. And talking about the companies that were given contracts for the purchase of street lamps, machinery leasing and urban image project creation, these companies exist, as they are registered in the Public Property Registry (Registro Público de la Propiedad)”, Trejo continued.
“They cannot mention the word “fraud” because no one has verified that there was any damage to the treasury and we are just at the stage where all evidence will be presented before the proper authority, whether it’s civil, administrative or criminal,” he added.
Regarding the overcharge in the purchase of street lamps, Trejo said that this needs to be clarified, because there were several different prices and brands.
