Record braking figures for Celaya’s tourism sector during 2016

CELAYA, Gto .- During the presentation of the annual report about tourism activities in 2016, Fernando Olivera Rocha, Guanajuato’s Secretary of Tourism, pointed out that, Celaya received an enormous benefit, last year, since one of every four pesos (from a total budget of eight billion USD) was invested in the Celaya’s tourism sector.

This great investment in the municipality of Celaya, allows to maintain the growth in the industry, with a 50% of hotel occupancy per week and a higher percentage of “gastronomic tourists” during the weekends.

Celaya’s Tourism Council Director, Raúl Jiménez Arreola highlighted that it was possible to create the tourist brand ‘Celaya: El Dulce Punto de Encuentro’, to consolidate the municipality as a tourist attraction.

Jiménez Arreola added that, according to data provided by the Visitors Center, more than 3,500 national tourists (most of them from Mexico City) and foreigners (mostly from United States) visited the municipality; and additionally more than 2,900 visitors requested information at the three mobile tourism modules.

He also said that, on average the visitors spent 387 pesos (18.87 USD) per day in 2016, up to 17.94% more than 2015, and the figure regarding the hotel occupancy with 50% on average, has ranked Celaya in fourth place in Guanajuato, offering rooms of one to five stars, and resulting in a significant economic spill estimated in more than 900 million pesos (43.9 million USD).
