Since the arrival of Donald Trump to the White House, Barbara Gayton, retired American Professor, feels sad and worried about U.S. President new policies. “Everything is very sad, very bad “, she emphasized.
In 2004, Barbara arrived in San Miguel de Allende. The original plan was to spend the holidays. But this trip made her take a radical decision: to quit her job in the United States and come back to reside in this Mexican colonial town. “One day, I fell in love with San Miguel,” she said in Spanish.
She was attracted by the weather, tranquility and natural environment, 12 years ago she moved her home in Tampa, Florida, to an apartment in a private housing complex near the downtown area of San Miguel de Allende.
“When you reach the age of retirement, San Miguel is the perfect place to move, and many Americans love living in Mexico,” she said while putting some sandwiches in the oven. “Other 50 foreigners live in this residential complex”.
For 38 years, Barbara was a teacher at various levels of education, from Kindergarten to College.
She said that, I remembered when my country lived a true democracy, but unfortunately, that is not happening now.
!In this small community, Trump is a frequent topic of conversation, and many an American has expressed against the wall, the immigration policies and the racism”, said the blue-eyed lady.
More than a decade ago, Barbara fell in love with San Miguel. “People are kind, good-hearted. The weather is perfect, there is very good energy, and a good quality of life”. And even though she has family in Florida and Texas, these are destinations that she only visits during the Christmas holidays.
