SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Gto.- Recently, the transportation concessionaires from San Miguel de Allende have increase the public transportation fees, up to three pesos, allegedly without authorization from the municipal authorities.

Regarding thos situation, municipal officials have declared that, these actions are completely arbitraries, so they made a call to all citizens, to denounce any irregularity before the Municipal Transportation Directorate.

Currently, the municipal mixed commission (Comisión Mixta Municipal) is conducting an analysis in order to adjust the current rates, and they expect to reach an agreement with the City Council this week.

“So far no increase has been authorized by the Municipality”, said Gonzalo González, municipal secretary.

“During this weekend, several citizens have complained about the increase in public transportation fees. Some operators have placed stickers with the new prices on their vehicles, without authorization.” Gonzalez continued.

Posters on collective urban public transportation units state that the rates went up from 5 to 8 pesos, as a consequence of the increase in the price of diesel.

This situation has been criticized in social networks, generating opinions in favor and against the increase, some users say that, if they want to increase the fee, they should start by improving the buses’ condition and training the drivers.

Gonzalo González declared: “Early this year the Municipal Committee received a request by the Union of urban transport permit holders of San Miguel de Allende (Unión de permisionarios de transporte urbano)”, to increase the public transport tariffs, but this was still in negotiations”.

“We understand these are difficult times, therefore the City Council will review the situation in order to take the right decision,” he said.

Gonzalo González made a call to all users to pay 5 pesos, which is the authorized fare, and if transporters charge more, please take note of the bus’ “economic number” (número económico), and report the situation to the Transportation Directorate (telephone number (415) 152-96-00).
