Foreign kidnapping victim rescued in San Miguel de Allende

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Gto — A foreign San Miguel de Allende resident was rescued on the night of Wednesday May 31 in an operation headed by agents from the anti-kidnapping unit (Unidad Antisecuestro) of the State Attorney’s Office of Justice, after she had been deprived of her liberty by a criminal group allegedly integrated of people from different countries who were operating in the state of Guanajuato.

According to proceso.com.mx this group of criminals committed at least four other kidnappings in SMA.

The woman was rescued before the ransom was paid, but the victim as mutilated, as the plagiarists cut off one of her fingers to send it to her relatives.

During a press conference, the state’s prosecutor Carlos Zamarripa Aguirre explained: “One of the alleged members was arrested during the operation and the other five were subsequently taken before the state authorities. Later on, another accomplice -also foreign- was identified, as the state’s attorney released a photograph to ask for citizen collaboration”.

Authorities declared that the victim remained captive for more than two months, since she was kidnapped in March, and apparently she was kept inside a property within San Miguel.

Prosecutor Zamarripa said that: “According to information obtained by the Anti-kidnapping Unit, this criminal group was made up of people of different nationalities who live in this city, and they would have committed prior kidnappings.

“On Tuesday May 30, the rescue operation took place in this municipality, in coordination with the municipal government and the victim was successfully released”, Zamarripa said..

“The security operations will continue in SMA”, he continued.

Accompanied by Mayor Ricardo Villarreal and the Secretary of State’s Public Security, Álvaro Cabeza de Vaca, the prosecutor stated:“The people involved in the abduction have been arrested and will be taken before an oral hearing judge.

The official concluded saying that the kidnappers were asking for a large sum of money, but the victim was rescued before the ransom was paid.
