Guanajuato ranks fifth on the creation of new jobs this year, as during the period from May 2016 to May 2017, more than 7,000 workers were officially registered by the Mexican Social Security Institute (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, IMSS).
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), on the month of May, more than 928,600 workers with social security were registered in the state of Guanajuato, that is, 52,000 employees more compared with the same period last year.
The head of the State’s Secretariat of Sustainable Economic Development (SDES), Guillermo Romero Pacheco declared: “The great economic dynamic that Guanajuato is currently experiencing, has encouraged the consolidation of dozens of investment projects, as well as the governmental programs aimed to strengthen the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises that have generated more and better jobs statewide”.
Out of total number of workers with social security in Guanajuato, 85% have permanent positions (for a total of 800,800 employees), whereas 15% of them are temporary or “eventuales” (for a total of 127,829 workers).
The transformation industry has generated more jobs than the previous year, accumulating more than 30,200 direct jobs, followed by the commercial sector, with more than 6,000 workers, and the primary sector that exceeds the figure of 4,000 registered workers.
