Queretaro, Mexico Jun. 13 (Notimex) .- The Ministry of Health of Queretaro lead the campaign of altruistic blood donation in June through the State Center for Blood Transfusion (CETS, for its acronym in Spanish).
The ministry reported that the action is taking place within the framework of the World Altruistic Blood Donor Day, which is commemorated annually on June 14.
The institution pointed out that the goal is to promote and raise awareness among the population about the culture of blood donation, as well as to thank the donors for the valuable gift they offer and the lives they save.
The 2017 motto of this campaign is “What can you do? Donate blood, donate now, and donate often.”
The ministry emphasized that the phrase highlights the role that each person can play to help with their valuable blood donation, in addition to highlighting the importance of doing this altruistic act periodically to have a sufficient reserve, before the blood is needed.
The institution called the population to attend the CETS and fulfill the requirements to carry out theis noble action.
In that sense, it pointed out that it is necessary to present valid official identification with photograph; be over 18 and under 65; weigh more than 50 kilograms, and have an eight-hour fast.
In addition, facial lines, acupuncture, tattoos and body piercing to have not been drawn in the last 12 months, and if they wear a piercing on the tongue, nose, lips and / or genitals, the jewel should be removed 72 hours prior to donation. Among others aspects to consider.
In addition, the instruction added, not having taken any type of medication in the last eight days; not drinking alcoholic beverages two days before, and presenting without severe caries or oral lesions.
“The donation process is simple, although it takes time, it starts with an awareness-raising talk by the social work staff, and a medical talk about the main requirements for the donation”, he said.
“The donated blood is used to supply the different hospitals and clinics in the state that require it, both from the public and private sectors; for patients in programmed surgeries, obstetric emergencies and urgent interventions and other medical procedures”, he said.
The release by the Ministry of Health of Queretaro concluded that donating blood brings great benefits to the donor’s health, among them, it regenerates blood, improves blood oxygenation and decreases the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
