State Secretary of Tourism attends gastronomic festival “Azafrán” in SMA

The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, Fernando Olivera Rocha attended the First Gastronomic Festival Azafrán at Hacienda “San José La Vista“, located in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende.

During the event, more than 1,400 diners enjoyed live music along with different activities such as the gourmet gastronomic show, the tasting of the “Paella Contest”, tasting samples of the San José la Vista wine labels, in addition to distillates and the artisan beers open bar.

In the paella contest, which was conducted by Mexican actress and singer Mariana Seoane, 24 restaurants from the all over the country participated in this event, from Nuevo Laredo, Guadalajara, Veracruz, Irapuato, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato and Mexico City.

The jury was composed of renowned chefs, culinary journalists, industry opinion leaders, specialists in gastronomy and food critics, among them: Valentina Ortiz Monasterio, Roberto Gutiérrez Durán, Vicente Torres, Marco Beteta and Hugo D’Acosta.

The first place was for the paella of Chef Cisco Bartolí, from Oleum Restaurant in Mexico City, who won the “Azafrán“award 2017, which consisted of a Gourmet Trip to Spain for two and a box of San José La Vista wine.

The second place was for the paella prepared by chef Marcos Canales, of the Limosneros Restaurant in Mexico City, who was granted with the “Bodega San José La Vista” award for the most creative paella, obtaining a personalized wine barrel and signed by the winner.

Finally, the third place, “La Favorita de La Gente” (people’s favorite), went to Estela Mortera from El Marjal Restaurant, located in Veracruz, who was voted the best paella by the diners, and won a box of Bodega San José La Vista wine.

The State Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato supports this type of events which are totally aligned to the State’s Gastronomic Public Policy, through the Gastronomic Program “Guanajuato ¡Sí Sabe! ‘ which aims to increase tourism activity in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, designated “Best City of the World” by Travel + Leisure Magazine in 2017.
