The State Secretary of  Tourism, Fernando Olivera Rocha, announced that the Brussels World Contest (Copa Mundial Bruselas), an international competition for wines and spirits, created a regional fair for Mexico and will be held this year in Dolores Hidalgo, where 1,500 labels will compete to be recognized as the best in the world.
The contest that is called Mexico Selection (Selección Mexico) will be held at the Wine Museum in Dolores Hidalgo from August 29 to September 2.
“This is the first international wine contest in the history of Mexico, and it will take place within our territory. There is only one contest in Ensenada, Baja California, but it is a national contest, not international.” Olivera Rocha said.
In this regional contest, wines, tequilas, mezcales, rums, brandies, sotoles, charandas, among other brews, wines and spirits “will be able to participate and to be evaluated by professional tasters from more than 10 different countries.
These experts will come to Dolores Hidalgo to the Museo del Vino, where they will be tasting more than 1,500 Mexican labels of wines and spirits cataloged as products of Mexico.
Olivera Rocha mentioned that during those days, there will be other activities in some vineyards of Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel de Allende that will boost the recognition of local products.
The Brussels World Contest is an international competition divided in three categories:
- Great Gold Medal
- Gold Medal
- Silver Medal
The Cup was created in Brussels, Belgium in 1994 for wines, and on 1999 spirits were incorporated. It is the most important wine competition worldwide and this year, they have relied on Guanajuato, Mexico and its quality of products to host it.
Starting this year in Guanajuato, the competition will be annual and it will be held in different states of the Mexican Republic every year.
