Tourism enterpreneurs expressed their dissapointment with the hotel occupancy in Guanajuato during the 45th edition of the Cervantino International Festival, since it did not meet their expectations.

During the Tourism Committee, the President of Hotels and Motels, Juan Pablo Franco as well as Armando López Ramírez, President of the Convention Bureau, affirmed that the 45th edition of the Festival did not register the number of visits obtained last year.

López Ramírez argued that the main weakness of the Cervantino is the lack of promotion, since according to them, many visitors did not even know the exact dates of the Festival.

“We have heard comments from tourists saying that this year’s program was less attractive from previous years, probably due to the change of management,” claimed the President of the Convention Bureau.

He also noted that the excessive number of street vendors and informal trade during the Festival, supposedly was one of the causes that affected the image of this important event.

In that sense, the president of Hotels and Motels Association, Juan Pablo Franco, acknowledged that during the weekend they had an overall average occupancy of 85%, meaning that many hotel rooms were still available across the city, proving that the tourism sector expectations were not met.

Finally, Franco urged the Municipality to improve the image of the Hidalgo Market and the Mummies Museum, as both of these important tourist attractions are in a poor situation in terms of infrastructure.
