For five days you can peruse the largest English language bookstore in Mexico. Blink and it will be gone. Don’t miss this opportunity to visit a small, independent bookstore with 175 titles written by 90 different authors. You will be able to leaf through real books to your heart’s content.
This ‘Pop-Up’ bookstore will be of great interest to anyone looking for souvenirs and gifts, as well as new and current residents who enjoy reading. In addition to the Fiction, Non Fiction, Poetry, Memoirs, Self Help, and an Eclectic grouping of books written in English (children’s books, cookbooks, etc.), there will also be books available in Spanish.
Like any great bookstore worth its weight in salt, you will also find relevant accessories like tote bags, branded thermal cups, and MP3s of Conference keynote presentations.
Keynote presentations? Yes, you read that correctly. Though this bookstore is open to the public, it is in fact located on the grounds of the San Miguel Writers’ Conference, headquartered at Hotel Real de Minas. Every keynote speaker — Wally Lamb, Jane Friedman, Rita Dove, John Vaillant, Jorge Volpi, Joseph Boyden and Emma Donoghue — will have their books in the Conference Bookstore.
For afternoon keynote speakers, book signings happen right outside of our conference bookstore. In the evening, our keynote speakers will be signing their books at the front of the ballroom. Books will also be available for purchase in the ballroom after each evening presentation.
The San Miguel Literary Sala is the proud producer of the San Miguel Writers’ Conference. Proceeds from your purchases in the bookstore will help support the Reading Appreciation project for young children in the surrounding indigenous villages. In addition to the internationally acclaimed Writers’ Conference, the Literary Sala underwrites and coordinates many community events including monthly author presentations, Poetry Café Bellas Artes, our My First Book program, Libros para Todos, Teen Creative Writing Workshops, Scholarships for Mexican writers and teachers, the annual International Storytelling Festival, the Community Big Read, a Spanish Literary Radio show at 1280 AM on the dial, “Sancho Panza de Cabeza,” Crossroads magazine for arts and culture, and Sala Literaria Bellas Artes.
