Mexico’s National Electoral Institute, an independent organization in charge of organizing presidential elections, has hired Scitum, a cyber security company affiliated with billionaire Carlos Slim Helú, to “shield” the July 1 presidential election from cyber attacks, the news site SinEmbargo reported.
Scitum is known to have proven experience and capabilities in the field of cyber protection, said Marco Antonio Baños, an official at INE, as the National Electoral Institute is known. According to its website, Scitum is a security intelligence and big data analytics company affiliated with Slim’s fixed telephone unit Telmex and Grupo Carso, Slim’s business conglomerate.
“INE’s computer system will be constantly monitored by Scitum so as to be able to detect and prevent any hacking attack,” Baños said.
Scitum describes itself as the largest integrated information security company in Mexico and parts of Latin America.
