Queretaro is keeping an eye on investment projects by aeronautical companies, including Bombardier, a Canadian company that is a world’s leading manufacturer of both planes and trains, and is analyzing upcoming projects in the Mexican Bajío region.
“The company is evaluating the pros and cons between locations in Mexico and China; in Mexican soil, it studies the possibilty of settling down in Querétaro and Chihuahua, among other states”, said the governor, Francisco Domínguez Servién.
“They will be making decisions by the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 and Querétaro again may be an important point of business for Bombardier” he said.
The Secretary of Sustainable Development (Sedesu), Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, stressed that Bombardier already has an important stake in Querétaro, where it currently manufactures structures for the Global 7000 and Series C aircraft.
“Given the evolution of the aeronautical industry” – said the head of Sedesu- “Bombardier is looking for strategic locations that provide competitive costs for its operation”.
“The fact that the governor has attended meetings with the president of the Structures Division of Bombardier who is the head of the plants in Querétaro, gave them certainty to continue investing,”said Del Prete Tercero.
According to the secretary of Sustainable Development, a message of certainty was spread to invest in Mexico.
In May, Bombardier completed 12 years of operations in Querétaro. In 2017, the company added 500 new workers to its production plant, foreseeing to hire 300 more in 2018, to average 2,300 workers in the state.
The hiring of personnel has focused on operational areas, profiles that seek to cover with graduates of the Aeronautical University in Queretaro.
“On the other hand, foreign businessmen have shown concern about the relationship they will maintain with Andrés Manuel López Obrador”, said Francisco Domínguez Servién.
During a working tour through Europe (from July 16 to 20), the state governor said that in a meeting held with Bombardier executives, they expressed concern about the new federal administration.
“We met with companies that are based in Querétaro, including highe executives of Bombardier, who showed concern about the relationship with the new federal government that will take office as of the first of the first of December, the direct question was how do we see the new president-elect, ” said Domínguez Servién.
The governor explained that he answered with three fundamental points:
- First, the announcement of maintaining the independence of the Bank of Mexico has left the financial markets quiet.
- Second, he spoke about the meeting that López Obrador held with members of the Business Coordinating Council.
- Third point, he reiterated the meeting that the virtual president had with the National Conference of Governors, in which it was mentioned that at the moment there would be no adjustments to the Energy Reform, but only to the Educational Reform.
