Three Guanajuato mummies (arid bodies) that belong to the Mummies Museum were affected during the remodeling works that took place inside this museum that is one of the most important tourist complex in the state.
Injured mummies?
Two of the bodies presented detachment of what is apparently the skin and one more had a fracture of the right leg that was not there before the remodeling works.
The director of Municipal Tourism, Salvador Jaime Arroyo, explained that these damages to the historical patrimony of the city, could’ve taken place during the change of showcases, because these bodies have more than 50 years in exhibition, and therefore they are fragile and vulnerable.
Although the director mentioned that one body got affected, the AM Express newspaper was able to confirm that there are three mummies were affected.
Before the bodies were placed in the new showcases, they were exposed to a temperature that was not appropriate for their preservation, for which reason about half a million pesos were allocated for the complete change of display cabinets.
