Ottawa, Dec. 20 (Notimex).- The volume of Mexican visitors to Canada beat a record 14.6 percent between September and October of this year, going from 37, thousand to 42 thousand travelers, a historic figure.

According to official figures of Statistics Canada, revealed this day, Mexico remained in the “ranking” of countries that provide more tourists to Canada, not counting the United States, preceded only by the United Kingdom, China and France.

The October figure marked a record of Mexican travelers and represented 35.5 percent more than the Mexican travelers who came in October 2017 (31 thousand).

Among the Mexican travelers considered by Statistics Canada are tourists, international students, business people and the 25,331 Mexican day laborers that came to work this year to Canadian farms, although October is not a month in which many day laborers travel, as they come in the first months of each year.

Mexicans have been able to travel without a visa to Canada since December 2016, although they must carry out the electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), which is a simpler online procedure, but which requires the traveler to show their labor or educational ties with his native country.

Last year, a total of 372 thousand Mexicans visited Canada, while in the first ten months of this year 341 thousand nationals entered, bringing the monthly average up from 31 thousand a month last year to 34 thousand 100 a month this year.

In addition to facilitating the visa requirement for Mexicans, airline services have been expanded.

“The Canadian airlines that supply the routes to Mexico are Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Transat, while the seats of Aeromexico and Interjet continue to transport more and more Canadians and Mexicans,” told to Notimex César Mendoza, director of the office in Toronto of the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico (CPTM, for its acronym in Spanish).
