On Monday, February 11, the members of the teacher’s union (CNTE) withdrew the last railway blockade that was posted in the town of Caltzontzin, municipality of Uruapan, Michoacan state; which has restored the circulation of cargo trains and thus the transportation of products from the port of Lázaro Cárdenas to the rest of the country.

Members of the Indigenous Sector 9 of Section XVIII of the CNTE indicated that this decision was taken at a “uses and customs” meeting (junta de usos y costumbres) held in Caltzontzin, Michoacan on Monday Feb. 11, resulting in the decision to lift the blockades of all railroads within the state.

For his part, the governor of the state of Michoacán, Silvano Aureoles, through his twitter account acknowledged the willingness and cooperation of the CNTE to withdraw the blockade.

“I recognize the good will of the teachers to submit their legitimate demands through dialogue, and I confirm my commitment to find together, @GobiernoMX, State and teachers, the best solutions to this important educational issue.”

Governor Aureoles concluded saying that he hopes that the expected roundtable involving the magisterial sector, state, and federal governments can be resumed as soon as possible.

However, the teachers warned that if in one week the federal and state authorities do not respond to their demand, the train tracks will be blocked again.
