At the inauguration of the 80th edition of the SAPICA Leather and Footwear Fair in León, the governor of Guanajuato Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, announced the reconversion of the footwear industry to achieve better levels of quality and production.
In a statement, the governor announced that the German strategic consulting firm “Roland Berger” will conduct the study to restructure the growth of this industry. The study will cost 30 million pesos, of which the state government will provide 10 million pesos , the municipality another five million pesos and the rest of the resources will be contributed by local entrepreneurs.
Rodríguez Vallejo said that the SAPICA Leather and Footwear Fair is a great celebration of color, design, fashion and beauty, in which almost three thousand companies from 30 countries participate.
He added that there are more than 143 thousand families make their living out of this industry, and this figure rises to 220 thousand families if we consider the entire production chain. Guanajuato has 322 exporting companies, from eight municipalities, which commercialize their products in 55 countries.
The president of SAPICA, Luis Gerardo González stated that in these 80 editions of the Leather and Footwear Fair, it has been demonstrated that this industry is stronger than ever, more united and committed to the new generations.
