Childhood Autism is a much more serious problem than many realize in the San Miguel de Allende community. Many children with Autism and their families live in outlying communities. And, as is often the case, parents do not recognize autism as the cause of their children’s problems.
Niños con Autismo was started in 2014 with the mission of early identification and educational, therapeutic and nutritional support for children with autism. Now, in 2019, Niños con Autismo has successfully grown to the point where they have opened a Therapy Center dedicated to helping children with autism in the San Miguel area.
Heading this is the director, Sabrina de J Vergara Calderón, whose specialty is in Neurolinguistics with a subspecialty in autism. Since it’s critical to identify these children as soon as possible and get them the help they need, Niños con Autismo is partnering with Patronato Pro Niños to help identify those in the community who might have this disability.
The MidDay Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende is very excited to present members of the board of directors along with their director, as they discuss the important work they are doing for not only the children but for their families and the community. Our speakers will include Roccio Puig, who is a real estate broker with KW Realty.
She has a teenage son with autism and understands first-hand the needs of these children. Also speaking is Tais Gonzales, a relatively new citizen of San Miguel having come here from Veracruz. She is the owner of a boutique hotel in Centro called Hotel Naré and also serves on the board of Niños con Autismo.
