Members of the Catholic Church of the city of Guanajuato made a call for this Thursday, October 31 (Halloween), to attend an “Anti Halloween” march, which intends to go through the main streets of the city, departing at 4:30 pm from the “Plaza de los Ángeles” to the “Virgen de la Luz” parish, in Pueblito de Rocha, where a mass will be officiated.

The assistance of hundreds of parents who will dress their children as saints and angels is expected, as part of a public demonstration to protest against Halloween, and to encourage the people of Guanajuato to celebrate the Eve of All Saints instead, and singing praises and prayers, instead of “trick or treating”.

Father Julio Reyes Suárez, priest of the Parish of the Blessed Mother of Light ( “Virgen de la Luz” ), in Pueblito de Rocha, who calls for this peaceful mobilization, points out that the original meaning of “All Saints Day” must be recovered.

In fact, during the same date last year, a group of people in this municipality marched to protest against the celebration of Halloween, arguing that it is a sacrilegious holiday that contravenes Catholic customs and traditions.
