In a mass protest, a large group of people blocked the Manuel Zabala Zabala bypass. The events occurred on the morning of Thursday May 14, at the community of Nuevo Pantoja, municipality of San Miguel de Allende.
Inhabitants of the area held protests over excessive charges on the monthly collection of drinking water.
Officers of the municipal police arrived at the site to dialogue with the protesters and remove the blockages. However, there was a fight where some inhabitants threw stones at the police.
The police intervention continued until they were able to control the situation.
In this regard, the municipality reported that “SAPASMA (Servicio de Agua Potable de San Miguel de Allende) has always been open to dialogue and cooperation, such is the case of this community with which various meetings have been held on the subject and always with the willingness to negotiate and provide support,” they said in a statement.
They assured that they regret that for decades the ejido situation among individuals from Nuevo Pantoja has been an impediment to being able to fully support them in their request for the placement of individual water meters in each and every property of this community that belongs to the San Miguel de Allende Municipality.
