The news was released by the State Secretary of Health, Daniel Díaz, in accordance with the protocols established by the National Institute for Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference.
At the moment, the official did not give further details about the find.

In addition to this case, so far this year at least five cases of this new variant have been detected in the states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León.
The first case of the B117 variant was detected in early January in a patient who traveled from Ghana, Africa, to Mexico City, with a stopover in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on December 29. One day after his arrival in the Mexican capital, the patient traveled by plane to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, where the case was finally confirmed.
Almost a month later, on February 5, Tamaulipas, two other cases were detected in Tampico, Tamaulipas, and three more in the state of Nuevo León.
