The State of Guanajuato makes a difference in the 48th edition of the Tianguis Turístico, by creating a stand with environmentally friendly materials.

In the auditorium of the Forum Mundo Imperial in Acapulco, Guerrero, Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, in the company of Evelyn Salgado Pineda, Governor of the State of Guerrero; Mara Lezama, Governor of Quintana Roo; and Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico; inaugurated the space where the Guanajuato tourism sector promotes destinations, attractions and tourist products aimed at international buyers.

For the second consecutive year, the Guanajuato Tourism Secretariat measures the environmental impact of its participation in this most important tourism fair in Latin America. This year, the entity will generate an approximate 151.66 tons of CO2 that will be offset in the Protected Natural Areas (ANP) of the state, through the Proyecto Emblema (Emblem Project).

This project -between SECTUR Guanajuato, the Secretariat of the Environment and Territorial Planning (SMAOT), the German Agency for Sustainable Development Cooperation (GIZ, for its acronym in German), Reforestamos México, Civil Associations and businessmen in the tourism sector- is an intersectoral alliance for the adaptation to climate change of tourism dedicated to the restoration of the Cuenca de la Soledad Protected Natural Area and the Cuenca de la Esperanza.

“This is an important achievement for Guanajuato. In the construction of the stand, the use and reuse of materials that are friendly to the environment and that do not negatively impact the planet was considered,” said Álvarez Brunel.

This is how Guanajuato is measuring environmental impact in the tourist events that SECTUR supports in the state through the “Guanajuato Sustainable Tourism Distinction” – focused on implementing climate change mitigation measures in the holding of events, creating awareness of responsibility with the environment in the industry.

The stand, measuring 18 meters of modular structure for floor support made of wood (plywood); reusable glass; and Cold light LED lighting that emits less heat into the atmosphere and has low energy consumption.

Screen with LED technology with minimal heat emission to the atmosphere, equipment that has a long rental life (more than 100 times used before requiring maintenance); Rental furniture such as service bars, chairs, parapets, benches, and shelves; audio equipment with security in the emission of decibels.

As well as water-based finish paint that does not require solvents that generate gases that affect the ozone layer, and ecological trash cans made of recycled craft cardboard. All of this is of local input and provided by local suppliers.

In this exhibition, which promotes responsible practices, Guanajuato continues to promote the sustainable development of tourism activity and attract an audience interested in sustainability.
