Jaim Gritzewsky has transformed and dedicated his life to dog photography, traveling to various municipalities, states, and countries to shoot sessions with more than 5,000 dogs.
Gritzewsky, 36, recounted how his passion for dog photography began during a bike ride on Paseo de Montejo Avenue, where he captured numerous images of dogs. Together with his wife, the Yucatecan born in Motul, Estefani Cruz Palma, he decided to professionalize his passion.
Originally from Mexico City and living in Mérida for 16 years, Gritzewsky has focused his career on dog photography and creating content to support animals. He has held sessions on beaches in Yucatán, the state south, and in cities such as Izamal, Valladolid, Tizimín, Progreso, and Kanasín.
He has also worked in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Bacalar, and Tulum. Internationally, he has taken his art to Costa Rica, Spain, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Israel and Cuba.
An Architecture graduate from the Autonomous University of Yucatán (Uady), Gritzewsky left his cafeteria and other businesses to dedicate himself fully to dog photography, a passion he has cultivated for the last eight years.
He stressed that photography has always been a crucial part of his life since he took his first photo at the age of five with a Kodak camera that his grandfather lent him to capture a family image. Although he has used several brands of cameras, he remains loyal to Canon.
In addition to his photographic work, Gritzewsky has contributed to promoting animal adoption and has supported sterilization campaigns. In Costa Rica, she collaborated with a shelter that rescued 500 dogs, providing photo sessions to help local associations.
Although he occasionally photographs cats, he must always include at least one dog in his images. He has also held sessions in various settings, such as abandoned wagons, farms, and beaches. Their archive has more than a terabyte of information, including more than 500 sessions and more than 5,000 dogs photographed.
Gritzewsky offers photography courses and, together with his partner, shares his home with four dogs.
Among his anecdotes, he remembers an orphaned dog in Mexico City nicknamed José José, who went viral for his characteristic bark. It has also held special sessions for terminally ill pets, giving them unforgettable memories in their final days.
Gritzewsky, known in Motul for his work with stray dogs, has collaborated with local associations to help rescue and care for needy animals, an effort he considers crucial to starting change.
