The municipality of San Miguel de Allende carries out prevention and supervision actions to avoid exploitation in child labor, especially in street commerce.
The Municipal Government of San Miguel de Allende, through the DIF, has intensified prevention and immediate response actions to protect minors from abuse and exploitation, especially in street trading activities.
The municipality of San Miguel, due to its tourist and service vocation, has a constant presence of street commerce, and not all of them have the corresponding permit for this type of activity. Hence, risks arise such as the presence of girls and boys in commercial activities on the streets of the city.
Minors are at risk in SMA
Currently, within the supervision carried out by the municipal DIF, they have found situations in which minors see their rights violated. The agency identified some minors who travel on public roads at night and others in the company of alcoholic adults. On the other hand, boys and girls sometimes work full days without access to nutritious food.
They do not attend school and work from an early age. These conditions affect their health, dignity, and integral development.
Preventive actions to avoid abuse in minors
Given this situation of child labor, the municipal presidency, headed by Mayor Mauricio Trejo, announced that supervision tours will be carried out to detect minors involved, especially in street commerce activities on public roads.
The DIF will present the corresponding complaints of cases that are identified in situations that violate their rights, during the tours through citizen reports. Additionally, the agency will actively participate in the legal representation of affected minors.
The system for the comprehensive development of the family in SMA will provide these minors with social assistance, including medical and psychological care, to guarantee their comprehensive well-being.
On the other hand, within the prevention actions, talks were launched in schools and inter-institutional working groups. The objective is to generate strategies that provide girls, boys, and adolescents with a healthier environment that adheres to children’s rights.
