The Huachicoleros have made thousands of illegal taps on Pemex pipelines nationwide.
Even though President Lopez Obrador promised to take control of the situation regarding clandestine intakes for fuel milking, this illegal activity increased by 123 percent in the first five years of AMLO’s six-year term, compared to the same period of Enrique Peña’s administration.
From 2019 to 2023, Pemex recorded 64,032 pickets in its distribution system, the highest figure in the history of the company and high above the 28,688 clandestine taps recorded between 2013 and 2017.
“Huachicoleo” continues and in broad daylight, it is easy to see the sale of illegal fuel on the Mexico-Querétaro and Mexico-Puebla highways.
Despite the presence of the National Guard on these roads, there are hundreds of illegal sale points all along these two highways, and in front of law enforcement authorities and civilians.
