Visit San Miguel de Allende, a small town that captures the imagination with its impressive architecture, ancient religious buildings, and the great creativity of talented Mexican artisans.
Visit San Miguel de Allende to feel the vibe of the cobblestone streets, gardens, tree-lined courtyards, and colonial buildings. UNESCO designated this city as a World Heritage Site in 2008.
Its main attraction is the small historic center, which features some buildings that are several centuries old. Stroll through the ancient streets, see the beautiful old churches, visit the craft shops, and enjoy the region’s art.
Start your visit at El Jardín, the central plaza where many of the region’s inhabitants sit in silence or mingle with others.
On the south side of the plaza is the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, which is an impressive building with neo-Gothic towers. In the plaza, you can see other old colonial buildings and a branch of the Museo del Juguete Popular Mexicano La Esquina.
Browse the small collection of handmade toys, some of which are for sale. Head into the main museum premises to see the full collection, which has been assembled over more than 50 years.
San Miguel is well known for its artisans and artists. Some of the best works are in the galleries and studios of Fábrica La Aurora. This former textile factory has been transformed into a major art and design center and is located about a 15-minute walk from the city center.
