As of November 1, security in San Miguel de Allende is under the direction of Gabriel Yáñez Palafox, who took over as the new Secretary of Public Security in the region.
With a career spanning more than two decades, Yáñez Palafox has accumulated extensive experience in the field of public security.
Since joining the General Directorate of Public Security Forces of the State in 2004, he has held various positions, standing out as the main escort of key figures in state security, which demonstrates his confidence and ability in handling critical situations.
The secretary will be responsible for the entire Region II in the state, which is made up of 3 municipalities, San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, and San Diego de la Unión.
Yáñez Palafox, who has a technical degree in police science and a law degree, will face a constantly changing security environment.
With a focus on “regionalization,” a strategy of the Government of the State of Guanajuato, his role will be crucial to adapt security actions to the specific needs of each area.
This new strategy will allow for a more agile and coordinated response to insecurity problems, effectively addressing the particularities of San Miguel de Allende.
The new secretary will be linked to a State Intelligence Center, which will generate strategic intelligence products and systematize the information necessary to identify criminal patterns.
This center will be essential for the prevention, investigation, and combat of crimes in the region, ensuring that security policies are based on concrete data and analysis of criminal situations.
In addition, the creation of an Undersecretariat of Operational Intelligence will strengthen the operational capacity in crime prevention.
This unit will be responsible for centralizing and coordinating intelligence activities, guaranteeing the use of advanced technology and inter-institutional collaboration to improve the effectiveness of the actions implemented.
Among the highlighted initiatives is the Gender Violence Attention Police Station, which will be established to prevent and address acts of violence against women. This police station will have trained personnel to ensure adequate and responsible attention to victims, contributing to eradicating gender violence in the community.
To confront one of the most worrying crimes in the region, an Anti-extortion Squad will be formed. This specialized team will be dedicated to preventing, addressing, and investigating cases of extortion, prioritizing the protection of victims, and seeking to dismantle criminal groups that operate in this area.
The Phoenix Program for Prevention will be another of the strategies that will be implemented. This program aims to address the structural and contextual causes of violence, working in social and community areas to prevent crime and improve the security of Guanajuato families.
The expansion of State Police delegations on highways seeks to improve coverage and response times to incidents on state roads, especially in stretches with high traffic of goods and people. This will allow for more effective surveillance and the promotion of a culture of responsibility and prevention among drivers.
The state government will launch Fortaleza Guanajuato, an initiative aimed at sealing borders and guaranteeing the safety of its inhabitants. This strategy seeks to reduce crime through collaboration between various institutions and levels of government.
Finally, a Specialized Unit for the Search for Persons will be created, which will provide support to groups searching for missing persons. This unit will work hand in hand with civil organizations to guarantee a safe and dignified environment for victims and their families.
