The government of San Miguel de Allende announced that it will implement measures to control the traffic of heavy vehicles in the municipality.
According to periodicocorreo.com.mx, the City Council of San Miguel de Allende approved the reform of the Traffic regulations to restrict the passage of heavy vehicles through the municipality from 11 at night to 5 in the morning and prohibit the transit of double-articulated tractor-trailers.
This reform is given after the fatal accident that occurred on October 17 on the José Manuel Zavala Zavala bypass, where a trailer hit four vehicles and caused the death of two people, in addition to multiple injuries and consists of an addition to article 85 bis.
The reform to the regulation will come into force after passing to Congress and being published in the official journal and establishes a fine that could exceed 17 thousand pesos for drivers who violate these specifications.
Currently, the municipal government is carrying out a review operation for heavy vehicles that circulate through the municipality, diverting them to the road to Alcocer instead of continuing their journey through the Bulevar de Los Conspiradores, as they usually did.
This action has caused discontent among locals because the area through which the trailers and cargo vehicles currently pass is a highly transited residential area and includes a stretch of road that does not have sidewalks since, although its construction was announced before the electoral campaigns began, the work has not begun, so residents of the area point out that is a “Not fulfilled” campaign promise made by the reelected municipal president, Mauricio Trejo Pureco.
