Despite the fact that the municipal government carried out dozens of pluvial works with an investment of $150 million pesos ($8.5 million USD) this year, heavy rains overwhelmed the pluvial system, causing traffic jams on several parts of Querétaro, where streets and avenues were closed due to flooding in different areas, on Monday June 26.
On the afternoon of Monday June 26, floodings were registered in different parts of Querétaro’s metropolitan area, and resulted in dozens of stranded vehicles. This situation was generated by the remnants of the tropical storm “Dora“; that turned into a category one hurricane at some point near the Mexcian Pacific coast.
Waterloggings were registered on “5 de Febrero” avenue next to the North Bus Station and near the General Hospital.
Other floodings occurred in “Corregidora Norte” in the neighborhood of “Álamos”, on “Prolongación Zaragoza”, as well as in “La Joya”, Corregidora municipality.

Residents of Jurica reported floodings on the access to “Paseo de la República”, and they demanded local authorities to solve this problem. Police officers arrived on site in order to help with the traffic jam and to assist stranded vehicles.
It should be noted that early this year the municipality of Querétaro carried out 42 pluvial public works with an investment of approximately $150 million pesos (8.5 million USD), but apparently these works were not very effective.
These public works took place in the neighborhoods of: “Paseo Jurica”, “Robles”, “Sabinos”, and “1era de Cedros”, zones where the affectations by floodings were significant.
On the other hand, downtown Queretaro got flooded too, causing slow traffic, but without major damages to businesses in the area.
In the municipality of “El Marqués”, the rains went from moderate to strong, and no significant floodings were reported.
Municipal Civil Protection reported: “heavy rain in the area of “El Mirador”. Meanwhile, in “La Cañada” and “El Colorado” the rain was constant, but no affectations were reported.
