Who would have thought that a small city in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico would become one of the most desirable places to live in the world?
And why not? The weather is perfect, “two or three weeks are cold and two or three weeks are very hot, the rest of the year has an average climate of 72 degrees Farenheit,” said Adrián Toscano, Real Estate Agent of Agave Sotheby’s International Realty.
According to Toscano, 87 percent of Agave Sotheby’s customers are American or Canadian and the average is 60 years old, but for the last three years people between 45 and 50 have started moving to SMA.
The whole municipality, located in the center-east of Guanajuato, has a population of 140,000 people, while 87,000 of them live within city limits.
Toscano said that, in recent years, San Miguel de Allende was re-discovered by nationals and foreign alike, and this situation has brought much exposure of the Mexican culture worldwide and therefore, tourism has grown exponentially.
“In recent years many gourmet-type restaurants have opened, San Miguel has become a culinary destination, and many of these businesses follow the trend of the gastronomic scene of Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York City,” added Toscano.
“San Miguel de Allende, known for its architecture, colonial and picturesque features, is now visited by big celebrities from Hollywood, South America, Europe. And many English, French and Italians have bought properties there”, he continued.
“People are looking to retire, spend their money in a good property and “stretch” their investment,” said Toscano.
“San Miguel provides many benefits”, Toscano adds, “labor is cheap, and there are plenty of social events and cultural festivals.”
As for the houses, there are properties that could reach an average of $ 300,000 dollars, which contributes to the fact that so many foreign people are moving to the beautiful city of San Miguel de Allende.
