With more than 42.2 million tourists, the country ranked sixth
In 2023, Mexico was placed in sixth position as one of the most visited countries in the world, only behind nations such as France, Spain, the United States, Italy, and Turkey.
In addition, it was positioned above nations such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, and Austria, according to the Barometer issued by the UN Tourism.
In 2023, the country was visited by 42.2 million international tourists. The nation not only stood out for the attraction of the volume of travelers but also for the income it attracted from international tourism. In this area, Mexico ranked 15th globally, and rose from 17th, where it was located a year earlier. Last year, the Mexican Republic reported income of 30,8 billion US dollars for Tourism.
According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Tourism for this year, Mexico could attract 45.3 million international tourists, which would reach the levels of 2019. While the foreign exchange income is expected to be 33.4 billion US dollars. During the first four months, the country’s main destinations attracted 14.7 million international tourists and 12.5 billion US dollars in foreign currency.
The UN Tourism also reported that, during 2023, 1.3 billion international tourists traveled around the world, a figure that was 11.2% below the record reached in 2019, which was 1.4 billion international tourists.
