San Miguel residents organize brigades to eradicate water lilies from the Allende Dam, due to a lack of interest from municipal, state, and federal authorities.
Residents of communities near the Allende Dam continue to fight against the proliferation of water lilies in San Miguel de Allende.
In their attempt to eradicate water lilies from the Allende Dam, residents of nearby communities supported the project to build a new machine that helps to extract the harmful plant more quickly.
Due to the lack of interest from the authorities, according to the residents, they continue to join forces in the brigades that constantly go to the dam to remove water lilies and organize collections for the rental of machinery that facilitates their work.
Motivated by the desire to recover this important water reservoir, which only a few years ago represented a source of income for them due to the abundant fishing and the arrival of tourists to the area, they have decided to look for new ways to extract the invasive species.
They now have a machine with a conveyor belt that facilitates their work.
