New outburst of violence in Guanajuato, worst in months

According to AM website, the violence is drastically increasing in Guanajuato, since four murders per day were registered on average in the state, for a total of 138 intentional homicides on the month January 2017.

This number has surpassed the figure of September 2016, when 106 murders took place statewide in Guanajuato.

Meanwhile, the municipality of León also registered a new record in the number of homicides occurred in 31 days, one a day, on average.

Celaya was the second municipality with 16 fatal victims in January; followed by Pénjamo with 12 cases, Irapuato with 11 and San Luis de la Paz with 9 homicides.

Among the most unfortunate cases, on Jan. 14 three children were killed during a shooting in the outskirts of SMA, during a police operation to raid a farm located on the San Miguel-Dolores Highway, which triggered a firefight.

Other murders were registered during the first month of this year in the neighborhoods of San Miguel, Villas de León and in the Barrio de Santiago.

Additionally, another shooting took place on “Solidaridad Boulevard, in the northeast part of Irapuato; resulted in two dead, one kidnapped, and several people who suffered nervous breakdowns.
