GUANAJUATO, Gto. (Apro) .- According to a data from the citizen initiative “Semáforo Delictivo”, a total of 124 homicides committed by organized crime groups were registered in the state of Guanajuato during the month of January 2017.
This controversial report spread on social networks, based on data from Mexico’s National Public Security System, features the following information:
“On January 2017, a new historical record of executions was registered nationwide, with 1,339. Compared to 829 executions during the same period of time last year.
This data indicates that Guanajuato ranks first in crime related executions (124), followed by Guerrero with 117, Michoacán 112, Baja California 98 and Veracruz, with 83.

Last year, Guanajuato was ranked sixth at national level in this subject, below Guerrero, Michoacán, Veracruz, Sinaloa and Chihuahua, according to the report.
Out of the 12,224 homicides perpetrated by criminal groups in Mexico during 2016, 670 were commited in the state of Guanajuato.
According to “Semáforo Delictivo”, the most violent month of 2016 was May, with a considerable rise in the number of intentional homicides, a tendency that has continued so far this year.
Just in León, 32 people were murdered during January; and 11 civilians were executed during the first 10 days of February.
This regrettable situation forced the state government to multiply efforts to fight these criminal groups, through intense security operations involving federal, state and municipal security forces, as well as Attorney General’s Office personnel.
