LEÓN, Gto- Although the new housing sales decreased significantly throughout the country last year, including the state of Guanajuato, León registered a significant increase in this sector.
According to data from the National Housing Council, the municipality of León grew up to 7.6%, in comparison with the year 2015. This situation places the municipality on third place nationwide, in terms of number of properties sold during last year, with 14,008 houses.
“La capital del zapato” is just below Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco (with 23,885 houses), and Benito Juarez, Quintana Roo (with 17,188 units), therefore it was one of the four municipalities in the national top ten of new homes sales.
Although Irapuato and Guanajuato capital are not even close to León regarding the number of new homes bought in 2016, both municipalities registered a substantial growth, with 8.3% and 38.6% respectively, compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, most of the Guanajuato’s municipalities had negative trends in this matter. For example, Salamanca decreased -37.2%, compared with 2015.
Statewide, the level of new homes sales went down 1.3% (356 less homes were sold than in 2015), however at national level, the sales fell down 7.7%.
