Commercial airlines Aeromexico and Volaris will lower their prices up to 60 percent in some routes, for the social tourism program “Viajemos todos por México” (Let’s all travel through Mexico) announced Tuesday May 10 by President Enrique Peña Nieto.

In the case of Aeromexico, which carried about 33 percent of passengers in the country in 2015, they expect to serve about 200 thousand people with the program, and to reduce ticket prices up to 60 percent.

“We will offer affordable fares in order to stimulate traffic outside of holiday seasons. We’re bringing discounts up to 60 percent of the traditional cost; we’re talking about round trip, hotel fees and taxes, for three thousand pesos, that speaks to the commitment we have”, said Jorge Goytortua, corporate sales director of Aeromexico, last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Volaris, which transported about 12 million people in 2015, expects to see a reduction in fares up to 50 percent on certain routes, which are not detailed.

“On top of  having the lowest fares in the market with an average $75 USD per flight, we will give special offers with up to 50 percent on some occasions,” said Holger Blankestein, commercial director of Volaris.
