On Saturday August 6, at 3 am,  a home made grenade (flash bang) was detonated inside “El Sótano”, a bar located on Calzada de la Estación, right next to the train station in San Miguel de Allende.

During the incident, four people resulted with injuries in face, chest and back; 2 of them were seriously wounded, and 19 year old Arturo Medina Ramirez was pulled unconscious out of the bar by Fire fighters and agents of the Rescue and Medical Emergencies Unit (Unidad de Rescate y Urgencias Médicas).

According to witnesses, an explosion was heard, and white smoke started to come out of the bar that is located in a basement (“El Sótano” Spanish for basement).

Firefighters rescued customers and staff from the debris. Tables, chairs, coolers, furniture and TV screens were destroyed. Even part of the roof collapsed on top of some of the victims. San Miguel de Allende Municipal Police immediately yellow taped the site and started the investigations.

This is the first attack of this kind ever recorded in San Miguel de Allende.
