Knowledge of Mexican culture to be promoted through the University of California

The Mexican Ministry of Culture and the University of California signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will promote the knowledge of Mexican culture in the US entity, Notimex reported.

In a statement, the culture ministry added that the agreement includes actions such as screening of Mexican films in 10 campuses of the institution and the declaration of the Route of the Californias as a World Heritage Site.

During the ceremony, Culture Minister, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, said that this agreement will strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and expand the dissemination of Mexican culture in the northern neighboring country, where there is a large number of Mexican students.

The rector of the University of California, Kim A. Wilcox stressed that this agreement will propose joint projects that enrich the cultural presence of Mexico in the school, where many young people from Mexican families are studying.

The Ministry of Culture explained that the document includes the development of a program for cinematography which in principle will take 15 Mexican classic films restored by the Cineteca Nacional, to the 10 campuses of the University of California.

Other initiatives include the Memory Exhibition of Mexican Cinema and research and preservation of the missions of the Californias for the registration of the Route of the Californias in the List of Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

During the ceremony, finally he stressed the activities undertaken are part of the Mexico-University of California initiative, completed on May 21, 2014.
