Queretaro’s Secretary of Tourism, Hugo Burgos García reported that Querétaro is advancing through the ranking of non-beach tourist destinations in Mexico, from position 9 to place number 4, during the current adminstration.
Burgos García made this important announcement, during the first “Economic and Sustainable Development” meeting with local deputies.
At the “Ezequiel Montes” hall (within Queretaro’s legislative palace), Burgos pointed out various records, such as:
- Tourist arrivals increased around 12 percent
- Tourists-night-stay increased 16 percent
- Hotel occupancy increased from 49 to 52 percent.
Those indicators helped to achieve an economic impact of 7.3 billion pesos (384 million USD), resulting in an increase of 16% above the same period last year.
Regarding visitors for tourism purposes, 94.8 percent were national and 5.2 percent were foreigners.
The government pretends to increase the tourism competitiveness through the new “Art, Cheese and Wine Route“, (Ruta: Arte, Queso y Vino), which will provide a greater infrastructure to the whole Bajío region.
