Exchange students that will make Guanajuato their home for the next six months, (August to December 2016), arrived to the University of Guanajuato (UG) to begin an experience that will positively affect their academic and personal lives.
This year, the Inter Mobility Program (PMI – Programa de Movilidad Interinstitucional) of UG received 226 students, 135 from foreign countries and 95 from other Mexican states. In addition, the University awarded scholarships to 132 students, 120 of them will be studying abroad and 12 more will attend Mexican universities.
During the welcoming ceremony, the General Rector of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, said that “the student mobility is a substantial part of our university, we must open our doors to receive students from other countries, as well as we must provide opportunities for our students to complete their studies at other universities in Mexico or other countries around the world”.
Dr. Guerrero welcomed the foreign students that will attend UG this semester, letting them know that the University of Guanajuato is an higher education institution with a lot of history and tradition, that aims at comprehensive training and student learning.
While the Doctor’s message to the local students who will be studying abroad was: “All of you have roots in your university, but you also have wings to fly to other latitudes, contexts and realities. As a consequence your return will be fruitful for you, for the University of Guanajuato and for our society”.
On behalf of exchange students, Rodrigo Leon Flores, a Political Science student who has participated in this program attending the University of Foreign Studies in Tokyo, said: “Let us feel fortunate to have this opportunity, but also, let’s be aware of the responsibility that comes with this opportunity, as we are representing our state and our country. “
International students come from the different countries, such as: Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, United States France Japan, Kazakhistan, the Netherlands, Paraguay, Peru and Sweden.
While UG students will travel to Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, South Korea, Denmark, Spain, United States France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Uruguay.
The ceremony was attended by: Iniverstiy of Guanajuato Academic Secretary, Dr. José Luis Lucio Martinez; Director of International Relations and Academic Collaboration, Dr. Sergio Antonio Silva Muñoz; and exchange student from France, Jonathan Luchier.
